چکیده

A comprehensive environmental fate and effects testing program, sponsored by the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA) Phthalate Esters Program Panel, has been completed. Based on the results, a preliminary safety assessment has shown that all of the 14 commercially important phthalates tested have sufficiently high safety factors to demonstrate low potential for adverse environmental effects. This program comprised acute toxicity studies on nine representative species of aquatic life, chronic reproduction studies on Daphnia magna, biodegradation (fate) testing, and physicochemical property (mobility) determinations on 14 phthalate esters. The objectives of this program were to determine for each test compound: The concentration at which effects on aquatic life might occur, the potential for bioconcentration in aquatic life, and the relative persistence in the environment. These data would provide the basis for an environmental safety assessment and would identify potential effects that might require further investigation. A total of 195 individual studies were carried out. Tests on a wide variety of aquatic organisms representing different food chain levels in both fresh and salt water environments showed that no single test species was unusually sensitive to the test materials. The higher molecular weight (longer side-chain) phthalates exhibited no toxic effects up to their limits of water solubility in the test systems. Even though the lower molecular weight, more water-soluble phthalates produced toxic effects below their limits of water solubility, no product exhibited unusually severe effects of concern.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Effects of phthalate esters on plant seedlings and reversal by a soil microorganism.

Phthalate esters have been widely used in industrial nations as plasticizers, in cosmetics, insect repellants, and munitions (Ribbons et al., 19847 Peakall, 1975). Due to the abundance of plastic materials in use, it has been estimated that 51 million pounds of phthalate esters leach into the environment annually (Ribbons et al., 1984). Phthalate esters have been found in many environmental sam...

بررسی غلظت دی اتیل هگزیل فتالات و دی بوتیل فتالات در آب-های سطحی تالاب انزلی در اردبیهشت سال 1392

Abstract Background and purpose: Today, environmental pollution, especially pollution of aquatic ecosystems, has caused serious problems for humans and other organisms. Endocrine disrupting chemicals are a group of chemical compounds that have serious adverse effects on humans and animals reproduction system. Phthalate acid esters (PAEs) are used as plasticizers which are easily released and...

Distribution of phthalate esters in a marine aquatic food web: comparison to polychlorinated biphenyls.

Dialkyl phthalate esters (DPEs) are widely used chemicals, with over 4 million tonnes being produced worldwide each year. On the basis of their octanol-water partition coefficients (Kow), which range from 10(1.61) for dimethyl phthalate to 10(9.46) for di-iso-decyl phthalate, certain phthalate esters have the potential to bioconcentrate and biomagnify in aquatic food webs. However, there are no...

Risk of Phthalate Exposure among Hospitalized Patient via Intravenous Fluids Receiving

Background: Phthalates are widely used as plasticizers in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) products. Several pharmaceutical products have been stored in PET containers, and due to serious health effects of phthalates, migration levels of them into pharmaceutical products must be determined. In the present study, leaching levels of four common phthalate esters including di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP...
